“We walked up from the lake, showed our phones at the gate and were straight in while a long queue waited at the office. The terrace view over the island is even better than the photos. The little audio history on the way up was a lovely touch.”

“Booking in English a year ahead and not being tied to a time was perfect for us — we just went on the one clear morning of the trip. The printing press and the wine cellar were a surprise hit with the kids.”

“Climbed up for sunset on our last evening. Castle was still open, the light on the Julian Alps was unreal, and we hadn't had to plan around a slot. Reserving ahead meant no fumbling at the ticket window.”

About Bled Castle

Bled Castle is the oldest castle in Slovenia, first set down in writing in 1011 when Emperor Henry II granted the estate to the Bishops of Brixen. For more than nine centuries the bishops' fortress grew on its rock above the lake — a romanesque tower, then a ring of walls, courtyards on two levels, a chapel and the working rooms of a small mountain estate.

What draws visitors today is the view as much as the history. From the upper terrace the whole of Lake Bled opens up: the teardrop island with its pilgrimage church, the red roofs of the town, and the wall of the Julian Alps with Mount Triglav behind. The poet France Prešeren called it a vision of paradise, and the castle terrace is where that view is widest.

Inside the walls there is more than a viewpoint. The castle museum traces the lake's story from prehistory; a replica of Gutenberg's printing press still prints souvenir pages by hand; the wine cellar lets you bottle and seal your own vintage; and the chapel, gallery and stone courtyards reward an unhurried hour. We handle the ticketing in English so you can give that hour to the castle, not the queue.

Practical information

Opening hours
Open every day of the year, including Sundays and holidays. Summer (April–October) 08:00–20:00; winter (November–March) 08:00–18:00. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Confirm seasonal hours on the day of your visit.
Address
Grajska cesta 61, 4260 Bled, Slovenia.
Getting there
From Bled town it is a 15–20 minute walk uphill on marked footpaths from the lakeside (steep in places), or a short drive/taxi to the upper car park a few minutes below the gate. From Ljubljana the lake is about 35 minutes by car or roughly an hour by bus or train to Bled, then up to the castle.
Accessibility
Medieval hilltop site with cobbles, ramps and stone steps between the lower and upper courtyards. The climb from town is steep; visitors with limited mobility should reach the upper car park by car or taxi and allow extra time. There is step-free access to the upper courtyard and terrace once at the top.
Bag policy
Day bags are fine. There is no large-luggage storage at the castle, so leave suitcases at your accommodation.
Photography
Personal photography is welcome throughout the courtyards and terrace. Some museum displays may post no-flash or no-photo signs.

About our service

Bled Castle Tickets is an independent concierge service that helps international visitors reserve and receive their entry tickets in English. We are not the castle and we are not an official vendor — we purchase genuine entry tickets on your behalf directly from Zavod za kulturo Bled, the official operator, and our service fee is included in the price you see. If you prefer to buy directly, the operator's own ticket site is bled-castle.si.

Frequently asked

Is this a skip-the-line ticket?

Your entry is reserved before you arrive, so you walk straight up to the castle gate instead of queuing at the ticket office. On busy summer middays that queue can stretch along the ramparts, so arriving with your ticket already in hand saves the wait. Bled Castle is an open site rather than a single-door attraction, so there is no separate security line.

Does my ticket have to be for a specific day or time?

No. Bled Castle tickets are open-date: yours is valid for any single day you choose, with no fixed time slot. Online tickets remain valid for a full year from the date of purchase, which makes Bled one of the most flexible castle visits in the region.

What's included in the ticket?

Full admission to the castle: both the lower and upper courtyards, the castle museum, the chapel, the replica printing works, the wine cellar room, the galleries and — the reason most people come — the terrace with its view over the lake, the island and the Julian Alps.

How and when do I get my ticket?

We send your ticket to your email as a mobile ticket once your booking is confirmed. There is nothing to print — show it on your phone at the gate. You'll also receive a short 5-minute audio history to listen to before you go.

How do I get up to the castle?

From the lakeside in Bled it's a 15–20 minute walk uphill on signposted footpaths — pretty, but steep in places. If you'd rather not climb, drive or take a taxi to the upper car park a few minutes' walk below the gate. From Ljubljana, the lake is about 35 minutes by car.

How long should I allow for the visit?

Most visitors spend 1 to 1.5 hours inside the walls — longer if you stop for the printing works demonstration, bottle your own wine in the cellar, or have a drink on the terrace. Add time for the walk up and down from town.

Is Bled Castle good for children?

Yes. Children enjoy the drawbridge, the towers, the working printing press and the blacksmith and cellar activities, and the views are a genuine wow moment. Children under 6 enter free and don't need a ticket; the child ticket covers ages 6–14. Keep an eye on little ones near the ramparts.

Children under 6 — do they need a ticket?

No. Children under 6 enter free and you don't need to book anything for them. The child ticket is for ages 6 to 14; from 15 up, a student or adult ticket applies.

Do students and seniors need to prove their age or status?

Yes — carry a valid student ID (for the student ticket) or photo ID showing your date of birth (for the senior ticket, age 65+). The gate may ask to see it. Choosing the matching ticket type keeps entry smooth.

When is the best time to visit?

Early morning right after opening, or the last two hours of the afternoon, are quietest and give the softest light over the lake. Summer middays and weekends are busiest. Because your ticket is open-date, you can simply pick the day and hour that suit the weather.

Can I combine the castle with the island and the lake?

Most people do. The castle gives you the view down onto Lake Bled and its island; a traditional pletna boat out to the island church is the natural other half of the day. The two icons of Bled sit within easy reach of each other, and an open-date castle ticket lets you fit the climb around the boat and the weather.

Is the castle wheelchair accessible?

Partly. The hilltop site has cobbles and stone steps between the lower and upper courtyards, and the walk up from town is steep. Visitors with limited mobility should drive or taxi to the upper car park; once at the top there is step-free access to the upper courtyard and the terrace view.

Is the castle open all year?

Yes — Bled Castle is open every day of the year, including Sundays and public holidays. Only the daily closing time changes with the season: 20:00 in summer (April–October) and 18:00 in winter (November–March), with last entry 30 minutes before.

Can I change my mind after booking?

Because your ticket is open-date and stays valid for a year, you rarely need to change anything — just visit on a day that works. All bookings are final once confirmed; we only issue a refund in the rare event the operator cannot honour a validly issued ticket. See our terms for the full policy.

Are you the official castle ticket office?

No. We're an independent concierge service for international visitors. We buy genuine tickets on your behalf from Zavod za kulturo Bled, the official operator, and handle the booking in English. Our service fee is included in the price shown. You can always buy directly from the operator if you prefer.

What currency am I charged in?

The price you see is the price you pay — we show it in your local currency where we can and charge exactly that amount, with no surprise fees at checkout. Payment is by card on a secure page.
